Audemars Piguet Launches Digital Consignment Platform for Certified Pre-Owned Watches
The Swiss manufacture is introducing 'The Watch Keepers,' an online-only marketplace that manages authentication and custody while sellers retain ownership of their timepieces.

Audemars Piguet is launching a digital-only certified pre-owned platform called The Watch Keepers that allows sellers to retain ownership of their timepieces while the manufacture manages authentication, storage, and sales. This direct-to-consumer consignment model represents a strategic departure from traditional retail and peer-to-peer secondary markets, positioning the brand as both the custodian and the transaction venue for its historical production. By controlling the secondary market experience directly, the Le Brassus watchmaker seeks to address the high demand for its timepieces while maintaining strict oversight of its brand presentation.
According to Hodinkee, the program will facilitate sales and auctions of pre-owned Audemars Piguet watches that are at least two years old, with the brand examining, certifying, and storing the timepieces while the seller remains the owner until the final transaction is completed.[2] This operational structure ensures that the physical asset is authenticated by the manufacture's own experts before it is listed for sale at a set price or via bidding on the digital platform. Buyers who acquire timepieces through this service will receive a two-year functioning service guarantee directly from the brand, which helps establish a standardized level of trust for secondary-market transactions.[2]
The introduction of this platform follows a broader industry movement toward brand-certified secondary markets, most notably marked by Rolex's entry into the space. Monochrome Watches reported that Rolex's announcement of its own certified pre-owned program in 2022,[1] altered the secondary market, turning the pre-owned segment into a well-established avenue for collectors. While Rolex relies on its network of authorized physical dealers to facilitate its program, Audemars Piguet is focusing on a centralized digital marketplace. This digital approach allows the brand to manage transactions directly without relying on third-party retail partners, reflecting its existing primary market strategy of selling most new watches through company-owned boutiques.
The financial incentives driving these programs are substantial, as demonstrated by the scale of existing brand initiatives. Monochrome Watches noted that the certified pre-owned concept has become a significant revenue generator, with Rolex's program yielding major financial results in 2025,[1] and showing even greater momentum by September 2026,[1] according to joint estimates from LuxeConsult and Morgan Stanley. Other high-end watchmakers, including Jaeger-LeCoultre, Vacheron Constantin, MB&F, and F.P. Journe, have also introduced their own distinct pre-owned programs. By launching its own platform, Audemars Piguet is positioning itself to capture a share of this secondary-market value while simultaneously managing the circulation of its highly sought-after models.
The operational flow of the new platform introduces specific custody and valuation dynamics that collectors must navigate. Under the guidelines reported by Hodinkee, approved sellers must securely ship their watches to the brand for examination, after which Audemars Piguet photographs and documents the watches for listing.[2] Because the seller remains the legal owner until the watch is sold and delivered, the consignor bears the opportunity cost of capital while the watch sits in the brand's custody. This consignment structure differs from immediate-purchase dealer models, requiring sellers to balance the premium pricing of a brand-certified listing against the holding period required to find an approved buyer.
This digital-first strategy also introduces new interaction models for high-end watch collecting. Monochrome Watches reported that the platform will feature digital avatars representing real team members to guide both long-time collectors and newcomers through the buying and selling process.[1] This blend of digital interface and factory authentication aims to make coveted references more accessible to first-time buyers who face long waitlists at retail boutiques. However, because the platform is initially launching only in Switzerland and Europe before expanding to other markets like the United States, the global flow of certified pre-owned inventory remains restricted by geography. The long-term impact on independent secondary dealers and the pricing spreads between certified and uncertified watches represent key variables that will shape the market as the platform expands.

The concept of Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) isn’t new to the watch industry, but it has gained quite some momentum in recent years, in particular when Rolex launched its own service , now known to be a significant revenue generator for the Geneva-based brand (USD 590 million in 2025, already more than that as of September 2026, according to LuxeConsult/Morgan Stanley). Now that many brands have embraced the concept of CPO, it was about time for Audemars Piguet to release its long-anticipated Certified Pre-Owned watch programme. Its name: The Watch Keepers. One of its key features: it is an online platform accessible here , currently open in Europe and Switzerland, before progressively expanding across regions worldwide. As said, Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) programmes are not new to watch brands and several higher-end watchmakers have already developed their own take on the idea to sell second-hand, authenticated watches. Large-scale brands such as JLC or Vacheron have already introduced their programmes, while several independent watchmakers, such as MB&F or F.P. Journe, have embraced the idea too – all with slight differences in the approach. Yet, in 2022, Rolex’s announcement of its own RCPO programme certainly changed the game even more, and the idea of acquiring a second-hand watch from the brand is now well established. It’s now Audemars Piguet’s turn to release its own version
