The market for early Chinese Buddhist sculpture and Dehua porcelain is represented on the Bonhams calendar by the C.C. Teng Collection of Buddhist Sculptures: including Masterpieces by He Chaozong, which is scheduled to end on 28 October 2026. This single-owner sale highlights the spiritual and material artistry of Chinese devotional art, featuring exceptional porcelain figures bearing the impressed mark of the legendary Ming dynasty potter He Chaozong, alongside early wood, jade, and metalwork sculptures.
Leading the collection is a Dehua figure of Shakyamuni Buddha, estimated at HK$2,500,000[2] to HK$3,000,000[3][2]. The historical Buddha is portrayed seated in full dhyanasana upon a deeply sculpted double-lotus pedestal[2], with hands resting in his lap in dhyanamudra, showcasing the serene, introspective expression characteristic of the finest 16th- to 17th-century Dehua white-glazed porcelain. Another masterpiece by the same master craftsman is a standing figure of Guanyin, estimated at HK$2,000,000[3] to HK$3,000,000, depicting the Bodhisattva poised atop swirling wave and cloud scrolls, her heavy robes falling in fluid, voluminous folds.
