The Bonhams Scottish Art auction, in a sale that closed on 22 October 2026, achieved a total realized figure of £526,280,[1] with 68 of 89 lots sold, representing a 76.4% sell-through[1] rate. The auction brought together prominent works from twentieth-century Scottish modernists, landscape painters, and architectural draftsmen, drawing on notable provenances and exhibition histories.
Among the top offerings was an architectural canvas by David Roberts RA, View of Donaldson's Hospital from the North West (1851). According to Bonhams, which serves as the official results source for the sale, the painting was originally commissioned by the building's architect, W.H. Playfair, and was later held by the Donaldson's Trust. The work represents a key moment in the career of Roberts, whom art historian James Caw described as the only Scottish painter of importance to dedicate himself primarily to architecture.
The auction also featured Anne Redpath's Market - Gran Canaria, a large-scale oil on board painted with a vibrant palette. The piece was gifted by the artist to her doctor, Dr. Ralph Kauntze, and had remained in the same family by descent for over sixty years.
