Juliens Auction concluded its highly anticipated sale of The Dave Brubeck Collection, which realized $835,248[1] in a landmark auction that closed on 17 September 2026. The single-session event achieved a perfect 100% sell-through[1] rate, with all 207 of 207 lots finding buyers. Drawn directly from the personal estate of the legendary jazz pianist and composer, the auction offered a rare, intimate look into Brubeck's creative environment, personal style, and historic career. Juliens Auction served as the official results source for this white-glove estate sale.[1]
The undisputed centerpiece of the collection was the original cover artwork for Brubeck's seminal album, Time Out. The mid-century modern abstract geometric watercolor, gouache, and mixed-media work on board was created and signed by Sadamitsu Neil Fujita. Fujita was hired to lead the design department at Columbia Records, where his avant-garde style produced nearly 50 album covers[2], including iconic designs for Miles Davis and Charles Mingus. The artwork, which represents one of the most recognizable visual designs in jazz history, was offered alongside a framed copy of the album cover and drew intense interest from collectors.
Personal timepieces from the estate also performed exceptionally well, led by a pair of wristwatches belonging to Dave and Iola Brubeck. The "His and Hers" Rolex Oyster Perpetual watches, acquired in Switzerland, were presented with their original Rolex paperwork and case. The pair included a stainless steel Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust with a champagne dial and fluted gold bezel[3], alongside an 18k yellow gold Rolex Oyster Perpetual.
The physical tools of Brubeck's craft were also central to the sale. A Baldwin grand piano from Brubeck's home studio in Wilton, Connecticut, where he composed many of his classical and orchestral works[4], was a major highlight. The piano features a personal inscription and signature by Brubeck on the frame. Additionally, Brubeck's early home studio recording equipment was represented by a Neumann tube microphone with its original power supply, cables, and stand, which was used to record tracks for his solo piano work[5].
